Jantar Mantar

There are five Jantar Mantar monuments in India, these are located Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura and Varanasi. These Jantar Mantar monuments were built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. He was a great astronomer. It consist of many astronomy instruments that are used to calculate time as movement of the Sun, Moon and other planets. Later, this science was introduced to the general public. The Jantar Mantar monuments of Delhi consist of 4 variants instruments.

1. Samrat Yantra : This instrument is used to measure accurate time quickly.

2. Jayaprakash Yantra : This instrument is used to measure the position of the sun, ascendants and other heavenly bodies.

3. Misra Yantra : This instrument is used to measure largest and smallest days of the year.

4. Ram Yantra : This instrument is used to measure altitude of stars.
